The 250

One man. One year. 25o Films.

The greatest film of all time will always be debated. The American Film Institute calls Orson Welles' Citizen Kane the greatest of all time. Entertainment Weekly calls Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather the greatest. I have long said that the greatest film ever made is Michael Curtiz's Casablanca. What is wonderful about this topic, is that there are thousands of possible answers. Some answers are textbook and some are just your interpretation. Either way, everyone has a favorite film, and that is something that links us all.

My mission is to watch 250 films in one year. The 250 films I have chosen are the Internet Movie Database's Top 250 Films. The Internet Movie Database is the internet's premiere film website. Here users can obtain information on past, present, and future films. The site also allows registered users to rank films on a one to ten scale. The film must have at least 1500 votes to be eligible for the top 250 films. To date, I have currently seen 121 of the films on the list. I plan to watch all 250, starting with number 250 and working my way to number one. After watching each film, I will write a short (or long) entry either reviewing the film or any thoughts that I might have.

I am not sure what I am going to accomplish in the year. Many of the films I have always wanted to see. I guess this gives me an excuse to see them. Who knows what will happen? I might come out of the year with a new opinion on "the greatest film of all time." That would be something. I have always been a lover of film. One thing is for sure, my love and appreciation will only grow with every film that I see. The journey begins January 1, 2010...
